Ti case study: Romance Academy

Romance Academy is a nation-wide sex and relationships initiative run by licensed youth workers across the country. Its 14-week intervention programme addresses some of the underlying causes of risky behaviour amongst young people -including low self-esteem, limited aspirations and a lack of stability at home – by promoting the value of stable relationships.

Ongoing issues of funding and capacity – faced by many small charities in the current climate – led Rachel, director of Romance Academy, to ask: “How can we continue to make a real difference when resources are tight? How can we stay true to our values rather than just chase the funding?”

The TI workshop helped Romance Academy staff to work together to link their raison d’etre with long-term planning, to ensure alignment between ethos and daily activity. It provided a forum for a small, time-constrained charity to think through big questions and together decide a way forward that will maximize future impact.
